catching up

in the three years that i have been blogging, i have learned a little bit about myself. i learned that when i am very, very happy or very, very upset, i do not like to blog. when i'm happy, i don't want to jinz it. when i'm upset, i don't want to acknowledge to the world what is going on internally.

the past two weeks have been full of ups and downs; incredible happiness and fulfillment, and then depressing sadness and grief.

the job has been going very well. three weeks in, i have already written 7 stories. this past week, one section of my magazine's website featured four stories, and three of them were mine from monday's issue. i am proud of my work and interested in the content. i have already started to meet talented people and experience fun things. for example, last week i got to check out the window dressings at lord and taylor's on fifth ave. got to see where they design the window displays and climb inside them. i learned that the store is the only one in the country that has a hydraulics system that will lift window sets up from the basement design center up to street level. very cool!

other things in my life are going well, too...our fundraiser last week was a success, and we raised almost $450 and had so much fun! also, i've been dating someone, who is amazing. and my roommate and i have been getting along and having lots of fun. but i don't want to talk about any of this, because it could all fall away in one moment.

like last night when i went to the podiatrist and she told me i couldn't do my walk in a month. all of a sudden, everything i had trained for over the past 5 months didn't matter. all that matters right now is staying off my bum foot and letting it heal so i can walk those 39 miles on october 4.

of course, there are other things more serious than a foot injury that i have been dealing with in the past few months. my grandmother, who just a few months ago was believed to be cancer free, has received a less than promising diagnosis. i traveled down there for labor day weekend, just a few weeks after leaving there after our vacation the first week of august. i hope i will get another chance to see her again, but i am learning to accept the fact that that probably won't happen.

it has been hard for me to accept that all this good and bad can be happening to me at the same time. it has been difficult to put it into words, so i have been sort of in limbo, and avoiding putting it down here. but there it is. that is my life in a nutshell. i'm going to get back to taking care of my foot, and taking lots of advil
