first post of the new year, new decade
today i turn 27. so i'm getting a little sad and nostalgic and introspective. last year, i had all these goals, see, and i'm not sure if i made any progress reaching them. there is one that i'm stuck on:
"reach a point of satisfaction in my career, whether that means finding a new job that fulfills me, launching my own project or website or working freelance"
i think i have "reached a point of satisfaction," or at least one of happiness and contentedness. not just in my career, but in life. and surprisingly, i've reached this point without a boyfriend or permanent gig, no savings to speak of and a couple thou in credit card debt. i feel more adrift than ever, yet the happiest i've been in years. so despite the fact that i feel like i haven't accomplished all that i have wanted to by the time i turned 27, i am surrounded by friendship and love.
if i was to make another list of resolutions for 2010, they would probably look similar to last year's list, so i'm wary of being repetitive. i want to eat healthy, work out, date, find someone to shower me with affection, travel, find a real job, and decide what i want to do when i grow up. i want to never say no to any opportunity. i want to take step out of my comfort zone more often. i want to get a tattoo. i want to drink less. i want to do the avon walk again. i want to become a regular at a neighborhood bar (although that kind of runs counter to my resolution to "drink less"). i want to blog more and start work on the book or five that i have rolling around in my head. i want to pitch more stories and get more freelance work. i want to take more pictures and videos. i want to keep in touch with friends who are far away. i want to sleep more.
i can't take back any of the bad decisions that i made in 2009, but i can learn from them and make better choices in 2010. i plan to put myself first and start to shape my life as an adult. i'm 27. the time has come.
