an amazing weekend and other musings

when i left you last, i was running off on wednesday afternoon.

now, sunday afternoon, i am reflective, and somewhat hung over (still) so i feel the need to update.

first, on the apartment front, i have nothing new to report. i saw a couple apartments with tory in hoboken on thursday, but i don't think i'll end up living with her unless something pretty amazing comes up. her apartment is just too cool to let go of. in search of more one bedrooms, i saw a few in westchester on friday night, but nothing really caught my eye. and the neighborhood there is kind of boring. i was back in manhattan yesterday afternoon to look at an apartment on west 157th st, but i was foiled by a power shortage. the landlord wouldn't let anyone go in the elevator for fear that we might get stuck there. but the good news is, the building has an elevator. hopefully, it won't get snatched up before i have a chance to LOOK at it. i'm hoping i'll get the chance this week. the building in low income housing i think, which is perfect for me because i have a VERY low income! and while the neighborhood is what i will call "ethnically diverse" it is definitely livable, relatively safe, and only a short subway ride from, well, the rest of manhattan. definitely a viable option if the space is livable. after that lovely experience, i drove over to brooklyn, where is saw a cute apartment in a so-so, supposedly up and coming neighborhood. it was ok, but i really don't want to live in an urban environment that requires me to have a car. my car has been through enough thankyouverymuch.

but yesterday/last night made me forget all about my apartment woes. darcy and his roommate peter threw their annual "house warming party." unbeknownst to me, darcy invited jennifer to come down to stamford all the way from boston, and she borrowed a co-worker's car and drove in the pouring rain just to see me! i was so surprised to see her there! it was the best surprise ever. thanks go to jennifer for making the trip and darcy for organizing it and keeping his big mouth shut. much inebriated fun ensued, and we fit three people in one bed quite comfortably. look for pictures to be up on the web soon. i haven't updated my shutterfly page in months, so i think its about time. here's a sneak peek:

after finally pulling ourselves out of bed a little after noon, jennifer and i got treated to some high quality high school marching band performances. will plays the baritone horn. here's a pic. he's the short kid with the big horn. we got to see them compete against a few other local bands, but no news on how they placed yet. even though they look great in the photo, they usually don't far so well in the judging. oh well. one of the good things about living at home is i get to cheer on my brothers. whether they are playing in their "rock band," marching with the marching band, or at a gymnastics meet. HEY. i know what you're thinking! just because they do dorky things doesn't mean my brothers aren't cool kids. they are. i am very proud of them and i love them, and their crazy hobbies.

so, as i'm sure i mentioned before, i have to work tomorrow, columbus day. but i don't really mind, since friday i'm going to nashville!!!!! my boss is leaving for istanbul thursday, too, so i'll have an easy end of the week (and next week, too). fabulous. happy columbus day to you lucky ones who actually get to celebrate it!
