quick updates

first and foremost: apartment hunting. its going no where. i'm discouraged in some ways (i will never find an apartment i can afford, i don't make enough money to live, etc etc) and encouraged in others. the most encouraging piece of news i have is that tory, my friend from work who lives in hoboken right now, might be a potential roommate for me. we've started looking for 2-beds in hoboken, and its perfect for us to live together since we have the same job and make the same amount of money so there will be no fights about who pays more. its a little complicated because she has a great cheap one bed right now that her boyfriend is eyeing, so that frees her up to come live with me! the best part is, her bf chris is totally behind the idea (in fact i'll just pretend he came up with it ;) )

in other apartment news, the pelham one bed my dad found turned out to be a slum. i saw a GORGEOUS brand new everything apartment for $1050 but it was in fleetwood, which is a nicer area of mount vernon in westchester. if you don't know the area, its a quiet neighborhood, a little on the older side, and kind of not the safest place. but its near the train, the train is only a 30 minute ride to the city, and its cheap. so who knows....

can i just, for one moment, extol the beauty of jewish high holidays? they have made my commute the past two days a breeze! the roads aren't as busy since there is no school in stamford, and there are half as many people riding the train. even the subways are empty. i can't wait for columbus day and veteran's day. yes, it seems the forbes family doesn't believe in giving those two patriotic holidays their due by giving us a day off, but we do get off for malcolm forbes's birthday so i'm not complaining.

the current issue we are working on right now closes on monday. (def: close (verb) - day when a magazine sends its final pages to print thus ending the print cycle. closing day is usually preceded by closing week, a hectic time of the cycle when reporters, editors, and copy editors stay in the office until the wee hours of the morning, except at forbes when people are usually out by 10ish so i hear) after this issue, there are four more for the rest of the year! it makes sense because we do two a month, and the last one for the year closes on december 2. i think we probably close the first issue of the year in december so its really like there's five left before vacation...but it sounds cooler this way. then we all get a nice long break...sigh. i love my job.

so i'm going to look at more apartments tomorrow and friday, so maybe i'll have a place to live by next week? a girl can dream can't she?
