the hits keep on coming

hello!

i haven't written in a little while, but it would be a lie to say i've been busy. truthfully, i've been very down on myself. this job-hunting this is not working, and i feel i'm getting no support from my superiors here. of course my boss is still out of the office, returning this week. but i'm going away (yay!) wednesday so i'll miss him until monday. although i'm looking forward to talking about my present predicament, i doubt he'll be able to help me. four people here have told me that i'm in no position at present to be a reporter here. there are several reasons, which i don't feel like listing, but the whole business has got me thinking that, if i can't get a job here after putting my heart and soul into being an excellent assistant for one year, then maybe i should just look elsewhere. so after gathering all my courage i've resigned myself to the fact that if i do get a call from one of these many many places i've applied to, i might be packing up my desk asap.

since i last updated this, i've applied to four more jobs. my efforts were slowed by the fourth of july holiday and a recent slump of self esteem. this brings the total up to 20. for those of you keeping track, here's the run down:

time looking for a new job: 1 month
jobs applied: 20
callbacks/interviews: 0

that's a worse record than i had this time last year when i was just a college grad with no experience. what could possibly be holding people back from wanting to hire me? i'm college educated, in my field of choice i may add. i have over a year of experience in magazine journalism, i have a year of assisting experience, and i’ve been published many times. people here tell me i should write more. i agree. but i'm waiting on pr reps and other people to call me back with info. i can't just write stories with no information. i'm currently working on 6 stories, with not one ready for publication. i'd say only half of that is my fault. anyway, while forbes clips are amazing and look good, i have pages of clips, full color and from another magazine, already in my repertoire. but no one here knows that, or seems to care. soooo i'm moving on! i'm ready to work somewhere where my education, experience and talent is recognized, appreciated and nurtured.

if you know of any place like that, let me know. i won't hold my breath.
