funny thing about subways
so i left work a little bummed out today. definitely tired and hungry, with no real plan for dinner or anything else. i'm sure i had a scowl on my face.
then i bumped into a friend of mine from college. things like that are always happening to me. it cheered me up, and reminded me that i'm not too far off track, career and life-wise. my friend works for a satirical newspaper/web pub, and he's worked there full time since august.
for someone who i had respect for in college as someone who had talent and charisma to spare, i'm surprised that he's not leaps and bounds ahead of me in the industry. he's had some more experiences than me, but he's basically in the same place. his job might be more recognizable, but he's essentially doing the same thing i'm doing. he lives in brooklyn with two friends from college and does improv/sketch comedy in his spare time.
that being said, i love reconnecting with old friends, if only for a subway ride. it totally brightened my evening to know that even in this great big city you can still manage to find a friendly face.
then, even better news, i came home to a check in the mail...a refund from the oil company from september! i finally have my $16 back.
but sticking on mail news, my mom sent me a package last monday that i still haven't gotten. i blame the mailman for leaving me a delivery notice. its happened before.

i really hate grocery shopping. that's probably why i avoid it as much as possible, perhaps to the detriment of my bank account. but when you shop and cook for one, things are either over priced (frozen food) or go bad before you have a chance to eat them (produce) so its just not worth it. in the long run, its probably cheaper (and more practical) to take out three meals a day!
not like a eat three meals a day. hmm, that's a problem.

today is the first day of lent. although i didn't go to church, i feel obligated to give something up. i'm thinking about giving up sugar. think i should do it?
