really? really.
please indulge me while i rant about something completely annoying and ridiculous. yes, there are better things you could be doing with your time -- and me with mine -- but i'm annoyed and this verbal diarrhea has to come up somewhere.
sometimes when i am writing too fast, i mix up "its" with "it's." it's a bad habit. i can't help it. it just is. the problem is, now that i write -- usually quickly -- hundreds of words daily for several posts on a widely read blog, i have to be more careful. but it kills me that people have nothing better to do than log in and post a rude comment pointing out what an idiot i am for not knowing the difference between its and it's. what kills me even more is when i get a rude email insinuating i should take copy editing classes.
should i have a thicker skin? yes, definitely. but may i point out how many times i have written it's and its over the last few months i have worked in this position? i think i've made this grammatical error two or three times. two or three times in nearly 600 posts, i may add.
what most annoys me is this minor grammatical error can cause such an uproar while spelling mistakes in headlines, misspelled names and other (what i would consider) major errors go by unnoticed, both in my blog and other's. some people really just have a stick up their asses. i hope they got some satisfaction out of posting that comment or writing that email, because they just came off as smug and -- as another commenter said -- priggish.
i corrected the error regardless. but all i can say is really? really?? there isn't something better you could do with your time and energy than be a jerk to me? really???
way to ruin my vacation. hurumph.
