city girl on a diet
man, it is tough to be on plan when you live in the city! my dedication to this diet and exercise plan is constantly tested by this urban environment that i live in.
first, there is the constant temptation. bad food is literally sold from carts that i pass on the street. if i want to grab a coffee at the cart outside my office in the morning, i have to resist muffins or, one of my greatest weaknesses, bagels. there are also similar temptations at my favorite must have, starbucks.
and then there are the numerous restaurants, bars, pizzerias and take out joints that suck me in. that in and of itself is hard to resist!
then there is the fact that you have to walk everywhere...which makes grocery shopping more of a chore than in suburban climes. it just makes everything more work, which is annoying when you're hungry and tired from working out too much.
take tonight for instance. after killing myself at the gym for an hour and a half, my legs were mush. and i wanted to go to the grocery store because my kitchen is bare. but i couldn't just jump in a car and make a quick stop at the store. i had to stand on the subway for half an hour, then walk 3 blocks home, where i showered. then it took all of my energy to propel myself to the grocery store...another 6 block walk. then i had to do the walk again, carrying about 20 pounds of foodstuffs.
but the old me would have only visited the gym for 45 minutes, then have picked up pizza and sat on my ass all night, fridge still empty. so i can notice a change in myself and my lifestyle...mostly that a large majority of my evenings are now spent at the gym.
i better lose weight this week. otherwise this is so not worth it. i'm too tired. and there are too many better things to eat and do in this city. even when you're fat.
