socks
i am thinking of skipping the gym today. and its all because i've run out of gym socks.
there are many solutions to this dilemma: buy more socks, wash socks or start wearing colored socks to the gym.
well i have already started to put emergency choice number 3 into action...and its sort of embarassing! a real fashion faux pas. i have a few pairs of socks that are short enough to wear to the gym that do not fall into my "gym socks" category. they are, in no order, a pair of orioles socks i bought at a baseball game, a candy-cane striped pair that matched a blue-and-white-star pair of socks for 4th of july (i lost the blue ones) and pink and red striped socks with toes. yesterday i wore my orioles socks, and i think i've lost one striped sock...and the toe socks are not comfy enough to wear in the gym (they sometimes cut off the circulation to my toes).
so i guess i could just buy more socks...but that's what i did last time i ran out of socks. i bought six pairs of white, joe bozer ankle socks. i thought that would be enough to last me for a little while, until i could do my laundry. i like the socks, but i guess i should have bought 12 pairs. six pairs only lasts me about a week, and i've started doing my laundry every 2 to 3 weeks...now understand i have other pairs of socks, too. but i feel like every time i do my laundry one of those pairs of socks, or just one sock or two, disappears.
i guess that's what happens when you send your laundry out for wash, dry, fold. i live across the street from an amazing laudromat that charges about $1 per pound for sorted laundry that you can get cleaned and folded and ready for you to pick up in 24 hours. so i have gotten over the squeamishness of having some stranger sort through my underwear and i bring my bag of laundry there about twice a month. but i'm pretty sporadic about it, since i own a lot of clothes and go home frequently enough to keep myself in clean undies and jeans.
but the socks...oh the socks. i just can't ever seem to get enough!
in high school, i had a sock festish. i was obsessed with socks of all shapes and colors. i loved thick, comfy, warm and soft socks from gap that i would wear under boots or chunky casual shoes that were all the rage at the time. i also loved wearing them around the house, to bed...everywhere. in the winter i never take off my socks.
but when i went to college, i started wearing sneakers and flip flops more often. so my sock habits changed. now that my dress sock collection has adapted, since i need thinner socks to wear with the dress boots i own now, and tall, almost knee-high socks to go with the ugg boots that almost never leave my feet in the dead of winter.
and now my gym sock requirement seems to have increased, too. so i have a choice: do my laundry more often or just buy a few more socks. no matter what choice i make, i know i will continue to run out of socks. i never notice that i need to wash my socks until there is one pair left or, even worse, none at all.
this is why i love sandals! no socks to worry about!
