the pas de deux
i have not been very good at keeping you up to date on what i think about my favorite summer show -- so you think you can dance -- but i have a feeling you don't really mind anyway. but, the top ten debuts on wednesday night, and america's votes start to eliminate contestants, so its really starting to get interesting. hopefully i will have tv again by then.
this summer, i started reading blogs about the show, and many of them dig up "spoilers" before the show premieres. they tape wednesday's dance show on monday night, so its easy to get access to information, i guess. this week, the pairings, which have been generally the same since the top 20 began over a month ago, are being mixed up. i have learned that two of my favorite dancers, will and katee, will be paired together, and one of their dances will be the pas de deux, or the type of dance performed by a couple in ballet. it's not clear if this dance will be done en pointe, because i'm not sure if katee knows how to do that and it takes years to learn (i should know) but, i was curious as to what the style could look like.
here is an excellent video of a version of carmen
other spoilers that i have learned:
jessica, a contestant that barely hung on through the first 5 eliminations although the judges told her partner, will, every week that he was better than her, was injured and had to remove herself from the competition. she is replaced by comfort, a hip hop dancer who was eliminated last week. comfort will be paired with twitch, an amazing b-boy, this week. for the past 5 weeks, twitch has been paired with tall, blonde 18-year-old contemporary dancer kherington. it will be interesting to see whether it was twitch or kher that was the stronger overall dancer in that pair. last week, their dancing was very uneven and they ended up in the bottom three, even though they were fan favorites from the start.
last week, my favorite couple, katee and joshua, danced an amazing bollywood routine. it was the first time the indian style had graced the sytycd stage, and it was amazing. however, bollywood is a dance that it best danced by a group of people, and i think everyone who watched the show thought it would make for a great group number at some point. well, this week, we shall get our wish! the top 10 group number on thursday night will be a bollywood dance, i hear.
predictions: without even watching the show, i predict that comfort, twitch, marc and kherington will all be in danger. i just don't think they are as strong as the other dancers still in the competition.
