thoughts on a long lost friend

i was home over the weekend, and i guess i was feeling a little nostalgic. i decided to go through some boxes of photos and memorabilia from college.

among the photos, hockey ticket stubs, too many "peanut butter fantasy" ice cream name plates that i can't remember why we stole, i found a letter written to me by an old friend at the end of our freshman year.

freshman year had been a difficult time for me, in addition to the typical growing pains, homesickness and the stress of challenging classes and making new friends. my friend had been there for me, and his letter was touching, sweet and appropriately mushy.

finding this particular letter made me regret what has happened to this friendship in the years since college. after graduation, i lost complete touch with him, along with many other close friends during that four-year period. i even, regretfully, have lost touch with friends who lived in my hometown who also went to college with me.

the question at this point becomes, should i try to reconnect? i'm considering...
