i could possibly get used to this
i have now spent more time here (in the apartment) alone, and i am getting used to it.
last night i met mo in manhattan for dinner and drinks, and found my way back to brooklyn around 3 a.m. it wasn't even that scary riding the subway alone. there were lots of people riding as well, but its not like i would make a habit of riding home alone on the subway in the middle of the night during the week. but i bet friday and saturday nights are probably pretty busy times on public transportation. i've also noticed that although you wait longer for a train during non-rush hour times, the trains move faster and stop for shorter amounts of time, so travel time is the same if not shorter than it is during busier times of the day.
right now i'm waiting for mom and dad to bring me the rest of my couch, my gloriously large tv, and some other things. i'm hoping dad can help me hang curtains, light my oven's pilot light, and change the shower head. we'll probably go out for dinner after they leave, and then its sunday night tv time. which will be wonderful on my tv!
i went grocery shopping for the first time in my new apartment today. the associated grocery store 3 short blocks (new york streets have short and long blocks, fyi) from here is actually pretty small and doesn't have much selection. but for the finer things, like cheeses, spices, fresh veggies, etc, i can go to whole foods in union square after work. there's also a big food emporium right there, and that's where i go to pick up the subway after work, so its perfect that way. i'll hae to figure something out for frozen foods, but i didn't really investigate the frozen food section of the grocery store because i don't have a microwave yet. i made two trips to the grocery store because i couldn't carry everything i need. i only bought the bare essentials: eggs, milk, bread, cereal, cheese (two kinds because its my new obsession and i already had crackers so why not) ben and jerry's ice cream, pasta, ketchup, and things like that. cooked my first grilled cheese in the new crazy pans my grandma gave me, and made myself a nice cup of tea. its finally starting to feel like home.
now if i can only get some curtains on these windows.
