public transportation frustration

this morning, my frustration with the metropolitan transit authority (aka the new york city public transportation authority) rivaled only the feeling of frustration that i have felt in that lovely city of boston, while waiting for the awful, awful T.

i left my apartment a little before 8:20. plenty of time to get to work, i thought. i waited at the president st. subway stop for 20 minutes with no inbound trains passing, as outbound trains went by every minute. finally, around 8:40 a train came that was so packed hardly anyone could squeeze on. i let three trains go by until i walked to the front of the train and hopped on a 5 train to manhattan. it was 8:45 by then. then, through the miracle that is the mta, the train went SO SLOOOOOOW, especially under the body of water that seperates manhattan from brooklyn (what is that, the east river?) which is the longest part of the ride. ugh. i finally managed to stroll into work by 9:30. what an ordeal.

but just a day in the life of a new yorker i suppose. as the stand up comic/copy editor said at the company talent show the other night, "if terrorists blow up the subway, no one will be upset. new yorkers will cheer, even if they get killed. they'll be happy the subway is blow to bits, anything is better than the way it is now."

in apartment news, spoke with the management company and they assured me i would have a fridge and stove this afternoon. if this is true i will rejoice when i return to my apartment and celebrate by buying groceries. now if only my dad would hurry up and bring me those pots grandma dropped off this weekend...then i could maybe cook something?

also, can someone please invite me to a fancy dress party for christmas or new years or take me out some where REALLY nice for my birthday so i can buy that amazing shimmery steel gray dress in the window of the 5th ave arden b? if more than one person invites me somewhere i might even be able to justify a new pair of shoes, too. anyone? anyone?
