i'm injured
as a reporter, all i do all day long is sit on my butt and type. i need very few resources for this: hands, fingers, brain and voice. earlier this year, bronchitis took away my voice, making it difficult to do my job. yesterday, another stupid clumsy incident nearly took away my ability to type.
i blame it on the doors, the stupid pocket sliding doors in matt's apartment. we've had run ins before. but this time, the door took it too far. some how, while opening one of the doors, two fingers on my left hand became lodged between the door and the frame. stunned, i pulled on my hand, but the fingers were stuck. i had to start to close the door in order to release my precious digits.
then there was pain and crying. everything seemed fine, but the fingers felt about ten times their normal size. ice hurt them, and i took two tylenol pm in order to dull the pain and put me to sleep. my middle finger is slightly purple on the left side of the nail.
i guess they are ok. as i type this, i am very aware of my fingers, but they are usable. but this injury could very well threaten my livelihood. as i whined about this, matt said that if i had aflac, that little duck would show up and pay all my bills. this insurance is not such a bad idea, because i am so clutzy, although my injuries are frequently stubbed toes, which would not affect my ability to do my job. however, a broken arm or wrist, sprained or smashed fingers and even strep throat could put me out of work for a few days or weeks.
but, since i don't have aflac, it looks like i'll be back at work tomorrow, gimpy fingers and all.
