back to real life

hello! i'm back. i feel as though have been ripped from the warm, comforting womb of the caribbean, pushed into the harsh world of manhattan and spanked on the bottom by a shitload of work. welcome home! but what else is new, really? its always a shock to the system to return to life and work after a vacation...i just didn't expect it to be so draining.

well as you can probably deduce, i had a great time on vacation. expect a full run down, with pictures, soon...when i have the energy. here's a short synopsis to tide you over: high temps, rain, lots of food, naps, books, food poisoning just once, too many islands, drinks with umbrellas, cigar bar.

intrigued? well you should be! just kidding. my vacation was super bo-ring. i read three books, for crying out loud! i was in bed before midnight every night, except that one night i decided to stay up for the midnight buffet and ended up sorely disappointed. but you know what? i needed it. before last week, the last book i had read was harry potter. not that there's anything wrong with that.

but it didn't matter how crazy (or tame) i was while on vacation. for me, vacation is not measured in hangovers. for me, the best part of vacation is the vacating...the leaving-your-life-behind-and-for-ten-days part of the trip. you know? i'm not sure if you know this about me, but i'm a fairly uptight, generally stressed out type of person. an dirty bowl returned to the cabinet stresses me out. frizzy hair. stray eyebrows. now add in work, boyfriend, friends, family, new york and the rest of life, and you see that my blood pressure is usually pretty high on a normal basis.

but a vacation...a long vacation laying on the beach reading a novel...that is my time to escape. i get very sad and contemplative when its time for my vacations to end. i wish i could stay on vacation forever...but that would sort of defeat the purpose of vacation, wouldn't it?
