the hills so crazy
cheesy non-competition reality tv shows have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. my favorites at the moment are the hills (california rich girls transplanted to la where they work in fashion) and the real housewives of orange county (california rich wives living in a gated community where they don't have to work).
now the whole point of these "reality" shows is to depict the real lives of these women, young and older. the producers of the shows are not supposed to set up anything, like parties or awkward situations for the characters to work themselves out of. i know they do it anyway but i don't expect them to be so obvious.
on the hills, i always feel so awful for lauren for all the hoops they make her jump through at her internship at teen vogue. and then i remember that she probably only has that internship because she's on a reality show.
anyway, tonight, they really outdid themselves. the teen vogue la bureau chief sent lauren and whitney, who is no longer an intern but has a desk in the closet with the other interns, to new york to supposedly do this presentation for the mag's staff and editors based in new york. intimidating!
but to make matters even more stressful, once our heroines get to the conde nast building (oh those intimidating white walls. i know you well) the teen vouge editor in chief tells lauren she has 20 minutes to get downtown to interview or something with marc jacobs. it was like a game show! one second she's dressed and ready for a meeting with editors and the next she's on her feet all day tucking in models and being bossed around. can the girl not catch a break?
but then, she got to meet marc jacobs. and she did not seem impressed. he asked her what she was doing and she said "alphabetizing," as in the pictures of the models she was styling all day. that's it? she was way too cool. she was like a true pro who has met stars before.
let me just say, if that was me, and i had been stressed out and overworked all day, if i had met marc jacobs in his sweatpants in his studio in new york i would have had too much adrenaline to keep my cool.
