the perils of finding an apartment part i
is it some sort of requirement of realtors in new york city that they be intensely creepy and weird? do those people who hand out realtor licenses test for this?
i just spent an hour with one of the creepiest men i have ever met in my life. in his car. driving around neighborhoods in brooklyn where i had never been before. and after we had stopped at three apartments and he was, i assumed, heading towards my apartment to drop me off, he announced that he was stopping to buy some pizza for some people in his office and asked if i cared to wait in the car. has there ever been a lifetime movie about the girl who was raped by her realtor and left for dead outside a pizzeria? if there's not, there should be, and maybe i should write it, because i almost just lived it.
ultimately, i liked the apartments this whack job showed me, but i feel uncomfortable seeing him again. something about a half-deaf, lisping, heavy breathing, snorting crazy driver just doesn't sit right with me.
and to make matters worse, when i showed up at his apartment, he never even introduced himself to me. the whole time, i thought he was not the person i had spoken to on the phone, so kept talking about this guy "lawrence" when, once he handed me his card at the end of our adventure, i learned i had just spent the past hour with lawrence himself! making me feel stupid will not help you make a sale larry!
so...moral of the story is, i am still alive, but still have no place to live!
