shoes

isn't it funny how shoes can totally affect your mood? well, maybe not your mood. but definitely mine.

because i live and work in new york and am frequently required to walk several blocks to just to get from my apartment to work in the morning (not to mention the fact that because i ride the subway to work i also frequently find myself standing up for 30 minutes on a moving train while reading without having eaten first). so, many times i opt for utility over fashion. hence, my love for uggs and reefs and my quest to find the perfect flat, knee-high black boot this past winter.

but i have recently fallen in love, yet again, with the heel. and when the weather gets nice, there is nothing i love more than pulling on a pair of pretty, 3-inch heeled pumps, without the fear that they will get ruined by the muck and ick of wintry new york city streets. in nice weather, the only fear is whittled-down heels, which can be repaired.

however, i cannot live on heels alone. the balls of my feet and my improperly turned up toes would not forgive me. so i find myself reverting back to my well-worn reefs. hardly office-appropriate attire (as a forbes boss once so rudely pointed out) but a good choice to wear during our commute (no white sneakers for me thankyouverymuch).

a few weeks ago, i bought a pair of low-heel silver flip flops that i thought would be comfy and a classy alternative to my typical reefs.

i wore the shoes for the first time yesterday...and they killed me! i still have the wounds to show for my troubles. who would have thought that a low heels flip flop could cause so much damage?

well, turns out, the heel part makes the shoe heavy, so it pulls at your feet when you walk. and the silver leather strap dug into my foot, even more so than it would on a flat sandal because of the added heft. honestly, i'm not sure if i'm ever going to be able to wear the shoes again.

today, i am wearing much more perilous shoes, with teetering heels and a peep toe. but, i have to be honest, my feet are so much more comfortable. i'm sure by the end of the day, the balls of my feet will be aching, but until then, i'm just going to celebrate the fact that i don't have a thin strip of leather digging into my foot, ripping my flesh away with each step.
