24 hours in philly, and not a photo to prove i was there
in my quest for an online identity, i completely forgot that i am a pretty interesting person and i do fun things sometimes. why try to change who i am and create a forced alias? i am going to publish my doings in all my geeky goodness. i will write about them here and if you want you can read them. or not. its up to you, really.
this weekend included a somewhat last minute whirlwind trip to philly, which was fun and exhilarating and boozy. yes, i was there for just about 24 hours but sadly, like the title of this blog suggests, there's not a single photo i can put up to accompany this post!
rob and i hopped a bus to philly at 11:30 on saturday, then promptly sat in traffic for 30 minutes before entering the holland tunnel. frustrating! we arrived in the city of brotherly love about an hour behind schedule, but the day was so sunny and warm it was hard to be in a bad mood. my cousin bri picked me up from our hotel and we went back to her new condo in the nearby suburbs and i got to meet her new puppy, minnie, a tiny yorkie-maltese mix. she was so cute i just wanted to stick her in my purse and make a run for it. but i think bri and melissa would miss her too much, plus she's not quite housebroken yet. so i'll forgo my dognapping for a little bit at least.
after a much too short visit and some yummy chicken cheesesteaks, i met up with rob and his family for dinner before heading over to his brother's senior a cappella show at penn (the penn six, if you must know). the show was raunchy and wrong and there were far too many boys in dresses. but it was hilarious and we all had a good time. after that there were big margaritas and then rob and i were welcomed into the after-party at a frat house, although we were at least four years older than the oldest college kids there. you should have seen the looks of horror on these kids faces when i would go up to them and announce, "i'm old." and they would hesitantly ask, "how old?" "26." "no!" they would reply. "you don't look that old." um..thanks?
but, as if in honor of my aged status, i ended up falling asleep on a couch sometime after 2 a.m., full of tequila, beer, peppermint schnapps and some coconut rum. not a very fun combination, especially for an old lady like me. rob eventually roused me and we stumbled home -- stopping for pizza on the way back to the hotel, naturally -- and he reminded me that i had pressed him to get the hotel room so i wouldn't have to spend the night on that very same couch. oops.
after that crazy night, even brunch the next morning with lauren, rob's brother and his girlfriend kristen didn't make the headache go away. then we boarded a bus back to new york, which did not help matters. i spent the rest of the evening in bed thinking that even the sight of food would cause me to vomit. but the queasiness seemed to pass when i eventually managed to stomach some mac & cheese around 9. i felt better almost immediately. mac & cheese cures all ills!
i woke up monday morning with a bit of a sore throat, so i hope my jaunt to philly didn't do any real damage. but nevertheless, it was an amazing, fun time and i can't wait to go back...in may, for graduations all around.
