a weekend of adventure

this weekend, i adventured to two new york neighborhoods that i hardly ever visit (and sometimes take great pains to avoid): the upper east side and williamsburg.

friday night, after being accosted in union square, i met my friend anne in the east village for fondue at the bourgeois pig while we scarfed down cheese and bread and veggies, followed by an amazing dark chocolate-butterscotch dessert fondue, i got an invite to meet rob on the ues. 70 blocks later, anne and i found ourselves in a lofted one bed in a doorman building, drinking champagne and playing with a tiny yorkie (i was in love). it was well worth the trek to the northern reaches of manhattan for some good times with a fun group of people. (and if you're big on fondue, you should definitely check out the pig).

sunday i again headed out to a foreign neighborhood, williamsburg. we went there with the intention of taking part in a bacon cook off, but when we arrived we were sad to learn it was sold out. instead, we headed to spuyten duyvil, which has an amazing selection of exotic beers. after drinking away our afternoon, we stumbled across the street to fette sau, a bbq joint where you buy by the pound. we gorged, then headed back to manhattan for a late night sunday movie, i love you man.

the movie was hilarious, genuine and sweet, definitely a feel good film that left us feeling bubbly and light. i just can't ever get enough of paul rudd, who excels at acting awkward, and jason segal, the brilliant marshall in how i met your mother. and i have been a big rashida jones fan since she was on the office and i was nice to see her getting to play a winning female character. i can't wait to see her on the new amy poehler show parks and recreation next week! super psyched.
