if every week was like this one...

this week was a good week. i spent some time working on a freelance article, spent a few days visiting a friend and some family, set up a meeting with an editor and got called back for the second round of interviews for a job i really want. if every week could be like this week, with a good mix of work, play and prospects for future work, i wouldn't mind living the life of a freelancer.

last week, i got an exciting freelance assignment, due this wednesday. that took up most of my time on thursday and friday, and i finished it up on monday.

tuesday i caught a train to morristown, a new jersey suburb a little over an hour from penn station. my friend lauren's parents live there, and she was on spring break so it was a perfect time for a little excursion. lauren picked me up from the train station, and we had a nice little lunch in the town's cute downtown. then we went to visit my cousin who just had a baby two and a half weeks ago. i got meet little camilla, and i held her for about half an hour! she was such a tiny little thing, with mini little ears and nose, and teeny tiny fingers with teeny tiny nails and knuckles. you think you know what cute is, but you have no idea until you are staring at a two week old newborn.

i got to spend lots of quality time with lauren, which was food for my soul. its hard to live with your best friend several hours away, especially when last year and over the summer i had gotten so used to her being close by and her friendship has been so important to me over the years. i miss her.

i headed back to new york late wednesday afternoon, and met up with some friends for a trivia night in the east village. we tried crocodile lounge first, but it was crazy and packed. instead, we headed to common ground, which was slightly less busy and actually had a good mix of challenging and interesting trivia questions. however, it started too late - after 9 p.m. - and being the old ladies that we are, we had to head home before the night was done.

thursday i went to a midday movie with a former coworker, but friday was all business. i started the day with a meeting with the editor i wrote the story for earlier in the week, then i headed to midtown for the second round in a grueling interview process i've been going through for the past two weeks. the meeting went great, and i finally feel confident that i might be able to survive as a freelancer. but the interview and the test i had to take did not go so well. i totally psyched myself out, got some simple grammar and spelling things wrong on the test -- which was like something i had to do in sophomore year copy editing class in college -- and then i forgot to include a headline on the article i had to write as part of the test. i remembered my omission on saturday, and tried to send an email to the hiring editor but...i think i totally blew it. i'm mad at myself, but i believe that if this job was right for me, everything would have fallen into place. if this doesn't pan out, something better will come along.

and if nothing else, this life that i'm living is pretty satisfying. now i just need a steady paycheck, and everything will be okay.
