Spring = strangers talking to me!
spring is in the air, so i think i should bring back my popular feature "strangers like to talk to me."
yes, spring brings out the crazies, and they were in full force today in union square. i couldn't help but snap a photo as i walked past a chalkboard that read "we <3 bacon" and as i was emailing the pic to a friend, waiting for the walk sign to cross 14th st., i hear someone come up behind me.
"why are you texting me? i'm right here."
ignore. now he is standing next to me.
"i'm right here." uhhh.... "you're adorable" extends hand "i'm sonny. what's your name?"
i tried to continue ignoring him, still typing.
"amanda."
"aren't you going to shake my hand?"
"no."
finally he got the hint, gave up and walked away. after he left, a woman turned to me and the she started to talk to me.
"i can't believe that just happened," she said. "he was all up in your face. that was really crazy."
i told her things like that happen to me all the time and, yes, i have been living in new york for over three years.
"that sort of thing never happens to me," she said, not noticing the irony that now she was carrying on a conversation with a stranger.
the light changed and we crossed the street. "consider yourself lucky," i said, walking away.
