an oldie but a goodie

from time to time, i like to read through old blog posts. sometimes they make me question what could possibly have been going through my mind at the time. but sometimes, i hit on a gem. below, witness the awesomeness that was july 25, 2007

you're funny

i saw two people wearing the same shirt today. normally, this would not even be something that i would notice, but because of the unique nature of the phrase on the shirt and the men who were wearing it, i had to take note.

first of all the shirt of the moment is bright red with white lettering. it has the following phrase printed on it just so:

you're funny.......
but looks aren't everything

so that is a silly and immature shirt to wear. it probably cost $8.99 at target.

but it was the characters who were wearing the shirt that really caught my eye and made me think, what kind of person would be drawn to buy, and then wear this shirt in public?

the first person i saw wearing the shirt was a man waiting for the f train this morning at the stop near my apartment. he was older, and had a tube taped to his face, secured within his nostrils. the tube connected to a square pack he wore from a strap across his chest, and it hung at his side. i assumed it was oxygen.

next, walking back to work after a wonderful lunch in the park i saw a different man wearing the same shirt. he was pushing another man in a wheelchair.

so my question is this. what is the connection between this shirt and the disabled? perhaps when we are altered physically we no longer care if we commit crimes of decency or fashion.
