are you hiring?

so the lovely picture you see above is the new hearst building. i was happily given a tour of the facilities today by my good friend, julie. the building is sparkling new, with a gorgeous atrium, amazing cafeteria and waterfall type things all over the lobby. oh, and amazing views, even from just the 17th floor. (i think it goes up to 40-something)

i felt like a little kid when i walked in the building. it was very similar to the way i felt when i interviewed at conde nast over a year ago, but this was better because it was new and high tech. and even though it wasn't conde it reminded me so much of the devil wears prada! i said that outloud in the cafeteria, which is probably a no no. but the food was amazing, and the beautiful desserts looked like no one had touched them. i'm sure the hearst cafeteria rivals the conde one, but since i've never been to the conde one, i can't compare. i only know what i've read about in prada!

so i can't really explain my feelings of awe when entering these great facades of publishing. i guess it's just part of the dream of living the magazine life. you know, working in one of those towering skyscrapers which houses women wearing stilettos and trendy belts and men with perfectly styled hair. i felt very out of place, like i was definitely an obvious visitor. i don't know if i would feel included even if i did work at one of those places, but the building and the mystique behind it would be cool enough for me. someday.
