almost daylight savings time

today i left work and it was still light outside! i was so overjoyed i practically skipped to the subway station.

i was happy because later sunsets always mean spring is on the horizon. then i remembered daylight savings time. pretty soon, it will be light out every day when i leave work! 6 p.m. is the new 5 p.m.

i did a little research and learned that daylight savings time starts march 11, which is next weekend. this year it's a whole month earlier than usual! i heard they were doing that but i forget why.

isn't the whole idea about daylight savings time a little outdated anyway? i always thought it had to do with farmers and ploughing the fields and all that archaic stuff we city folk would never deign to do. (for the record, my grandfather was a farmer, so i don't actually hate on that profession. that was sarcasm.)

it does seem a bit outdated to have a whole technologically advanced society changing their clocks every six months. and lets face it, its makes us more reliant on computers, too. you would never remember to do it if your computer didn't remind you the next day "your clock has been updated for daylight savings time." or something like that.

although its small price to pay for more sunshine while
