what's in a name?

today at work we started talking about the meaning of names. i found this really cool site about the etymology and background of names. very interesting, i think!

here's mine:

AMANDA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Finnish
Pronounced: a-MAN-da (English), ah-MAHN-dah (Spanish, Italian)

Created in the 17th century by the playwright Colley Cibber, who based it on Latin amanda meaning "lovable".

no wonder some people pronounce my name ah-MAHN-dah! i always thought it was silly, turns out it a cultural thing!

where does your name come from?
