happy bday brooklyn bridge
i took some time off last week to spend some time decompressing and pampering myself. to add to all that sleeping in and relaxing goodness, there were fireworks in brooklyn on thursday night!
fireworks are one of my favorite things in the entire world, and it was an amazing night. the air was a little chilly, but it was crisp and clear despite the threat of rain that had hung in the air all day. the fireworks were in celebration of the brooklyn bridge's 125th birthday, so they took place right over the historic, imposing and beautiful structure.
i walked down to the park, which runs along the east river between the brooklyn bridge and manhattan bridge, around dusk. the brooklyn philharmonic was playing, there was free birthday cake, target was giving away free fleece blankets and mayor bloomberg was there in a top hat.
after we sang happy birthday to the bridge, there was an awkward pause as they waited for it to become dark enough to see the lights under the bridge's arches light up. then the fireworks began.
it made me remember why i love living in this city, and especially, why i love living in this outer borough.
