old jeans
old jeans are like old friends. they are broken in - they know your ins and outs like no other. they are forgiving, comfortable, flattering (hopefully) and exactly what you need on a gloomy day.
on this gloomy day, i dug the oldest pair of jeans i own out of my closet. they are at least six years old, and well worth the $100-something i spent on them, considering how much wear i've gotten out of them, my lucky jeans.
these jeans, like so many old friends, have seen me through many ups and downs. these jeans have also seen many friends, and boys, come and go. what does it say about me that my jeans outlast my friends?
well, not all my friends. i'm still friends with the friend who was there with me when I bought my favorite jeans. but we no longer live together or even near each other and its hard to maintain relationships like that.
but unlike friends, jeans require very little maintanence. you wash and dry them every so often and they just sit there waiting for you to slip back into them, no matter how many new rival pairs of more expensive or more fashionable pants come along. i hadn't worn my luckies in months, but they fit perfectly, if not better than usual. i was so happy to be wearing them they just put me in a good mood.
that's one thing that good jeans and good friends have in common. - the uncanny ability to put you in a good mood.
maybe that's why i keep my old jeans around, and mourn when i lose touch with and old friend.
