happy thanksgiving

i am feeling particularly sentimental today. i always find myself getting reflective around the holidays, but this year i feel like i have so much to be thankful for!

first of all, i want to give a big shout out to my brother, joe. he left a particularly sweet comment on my last post, and i am so touched! i have taken to calling him "the prodigal son" because it sounds funny and he's away at college now so he's kind of out of the family loop.

(i've been told i use a lot of new words, so i'm going to try to add in a new feature to my blog called definitions. in the first installment: for more on prodigal son go here.)

anyway, we're all back in the house now. i think joe has grown a little, gained some weight and his hair is so long!

so the number on thing i'm thankful for this year: having all of my family in the house all safe and healthy and happy. here's some other things i am thankful for:

matt. my new job. my friends far and wide...from nyc to boston and beyond. my cousins and thier babies, especially bri and clover. my cruise and hawaii trip. cuddling. scarves. everything bagels. long novels. tivo (now i must steal my bf's). my new apartment. entertainment weekly. christmas lights. tylenol pm. my blankie. puppies. reality tv. sushi. pay raises. reconnecting with old pals. blogs!!

last of all, i am thankful for my very favorite holiday of the year. i love thanksgiving because there's nothing commercial about it. there are no presents to buy, just lovely mounds of traditional food to eat. and its an excuse to hang out with family and reflect on all the great things you have in your life.

like today. i was watching the news and i was moved to tears by a story about soldiers in afghanistan getting hot thanksgiving dinner delivered to them. i'm so thankful that my family and friends are all safe and in the u.s. my heart goes out to everyone who has family in war zones...all those people who are there.

happy thanksgiving on and all!!
