time to get some friends
ok yes, i will cop to this: i am very bad at keeping in touch with people and i am also flaky.
these two characteristics of my personality do not make me a very social person. however, if someone contacts me, i almost always follow up. and i am especially good at replying to emails.
so i have that going for me.
but the fact that i let friends drift away, that has been bothering me.
last night, i went to dinner with a friend from college. we started going to lunch together back when i was interviewing for jobs in the city.
so the last time we had seen each other or talked was august. a lot had changed since then for both of us, but the thought hadn't crossed my mind to call him and set up lunch again. well, mostly because lunch is kind of out of the question now thanks to my new job.
so he sent me a text message: "we are having lunch wednesday...call me tomorrow...and that's final."
this is what i need to motivate me i guess.
i told him lunch would have to be quick, so we settled on dinner instead.
it was great catching up with him, and we chatted for hours. we just have things in common...old things, college things, boston things, bu things, radio things, com things, partying things, friend things. it was nice and comfy and made me miss my other friends.
so here is my resolution. with the 24th birthday on the horizon i will make the effort to catch up with all those who i have accidentally forgotten about. i'm going to start by rekindling my email relationships (those whose emails i have on my gmail account and not the now defunct forbes account!) and then get to work on my phonebook, starting at adam wescott and heading down. (of course i'll only be calling those who i want to reconnect with. maybe i'll delete some contacts along the way, too! no more need for those guys from boston bars!)
like i said to my friend last night, "my life is good. now i just need to get some friends."
