now that the turkey coma has worn off...

i didn't go shopping today. in fact, i didn't venture outside my house. i'm still in my pjs! i'm considering going to a late movie, maybe, if my parents force me. tis the season to be lazy, i say. well, lazy and antisocial.

i just can't handle people, especially at this time of year, on this day. i used to love shopping on black friday. but when it was me driving, fighting for parking, dealing with rude people in stores and malls and eveything else...well i just don't find that enticing any more. i deal with crowds of people, rude people mostly, on a daily basis. why knowingly subject myself to that on a day that's supposed to be a day off? no thanks. i spent the day watching ugly betty episodes my mom had stored in her tivo.

good thing i did, too. right after i was done watching my fourth ep the cable box/dvr practically burst into flames. no worries, its up and working again but all my parents' recorded shows went poof. (including the forbes e! show staring yours truly thank god.) of course they lots a lot of good recorded things, but like a computer's hard drive when it gets fried, it's gone forever and no need to cry about it.

so although i'm feeling mighty unproductive, i really can't think of any other way of spending the holiday. perhaps i should have shopped online. but there will be plenty of time for that over the next few weeks. maybe i should have taken the time to catch up on my correspondence, called friends, etc etc. well i'm not good at doing that on normal days, let alone days where i'm on vacation.

i just have to face it: i'm antisocial. i like being indoors, on the couch, under a blanket, blissfully distracted with the television or a good book. of course i'm not always like this. but i worry that eventually some time down the line i'll just become completely agoraphobic and never leave my house. i could see myself becoming a recluse. and i don't care either. i guess that comes with the urge to be alone and anitsocial: the feeling that you just don't care.

well i'm not agoraphobic yet. and i'm not ready to hole myself up in my apartment and avoid the subway and busy manhattan sidewalks. but i am just slightly this side of crazy...enough to spend all of black friday in my parents family room, watching sitcom reruns instead of spending money in the crowded mall. and i just don't see anything wrong with that.
