*pics* more on the weekend
**pics added**
if you've been keeping up, you know that my trip to vermont was not the best. so by the time i landed, i was ready for a drink. bri was happy to help. she had already told her friends we would meet them out. we went to a small irish bar in downtown burlington, which happened to be fairly empty for 11:30 on a friday. gotta love burlington when the college kids are out of town.
after one drink we decided to get shots. we wanted something reminiscent of the shots we had in hawaii, called koolaid. those shots were blue, so i asked the bartender for anything blue. he said he was out of blue curacao (what?!?) and made up buttery nipples instead. guess that's more appropos for a group of lesbians anyway :-P just kidding!
after our shots and another cocktail, we headed to another bar. by now it was nearing closing time, but i had to stop for some street food, because i was feeling more than a little peckish. i picked up a nutella, strawberry and whipped cream crepe. i do love me some crepes.
the second bar, called red square, was more typical of a club. it had loud music, a younger crowd, and an amazing outside patio and bar in the back. we got more drinks and shots there, but only lasted an hour there before the bar closed up for good (they close at 2 am in vt, a much more civilized time than in nyc). we met some of her friends eating pizza and talked to them a little before finally heading home. i actually resisted the pizza. the crepe must have been very filling.
when we got back to bri's apartment, we had some catching up to do. the drinking had made us talkative and apparently not sleepy. we chatted about everything (although i can't exactly recall what) until 4 am.
i woke up way too early the next morning --- around 9 or 10. we had made plans to go on bri's friend amylynne's boat "before noon" the night before, so we had some purpose to the day. it was a gorgeous, sunny day, but too cool for my liking. amylynne and another one of bri's friends, jess, picked me, bri and clover up around 11:30. i had a big iced coffee and egg and cheese for breakfast, but was just starting to feel the effects of my lack-of-sleep-induced hangover when we set off for the boat.
finally got to the boat and had to row out to where it was moored in a little dinghy. we all had our bathing suits on, but the other three girls had board shorts on while i had regular capris. i wasn't planning on getting wet, going waterskiing or anything like that. i just wanted to chill and get some sun. and my body wasn't feeling great thanks to lots of alcohol and not enough sleep. so i was nervous about the tiny dinghy and tried to stay afloat.
we got to amylynne's boat without incident. after removing the top we got out on the water and stopped for gas. then we went out in the middle of lake champlain and bri and jess waterskied and amylynne wakeboarded. clover and i watched from the dry safety of the boat and took pictures.

bri got up on the first try!
amylynne also had a big float to tow behind the boat but couldn't find the cap for the blow-up hole, so i was happy i escaped being dragged behind the boat.
after an hour or so of playing in the waves, we headed back to shore. we anchored the boat and i climbed into the dinghy. clover came in next with me, then bri. amylynne was straightening up the boat while jess helped her reattach the cover. jess climbed in the dinghy and started to snap down the cover in the front of the boat from inside the dinghy. i could feel the little rowboat being very unstable and planned an escape. i decided that in the event of a mishap, i would grab my purse, which had my phone and camera in it. i noticed that the boat had a sign on it "capacity: 3 people or 441 pounds." we were definitely more than 3 people (actually 4 people and a dog) and i started to estimate each of our weights and add them up.
then, without warning, the dinghy tipped over.
i don't really remember what happened in the chaos of the whole thing. its funny how the mind works like that. we were in 2-3 feet of water, so it wasn't that big of a deal, but it was shocking nonetheless. bri and jess were thrown from the boat. i was completely soaked, and remember having to hold my breath because i went completely under. somehow the boat, which was made of very boyant plastic, righted itself and i was still inside. so was clover, paddling around, scared and completely shocked.
after i came up for air, i immediately grabbed my purse and held it above my head. then i grabbed clover, and plopped her in my lap. the boat was filled almost to the top with water, and i continued to sit in it, and it continued to float. amylynne, all dry and smug, laughed at me sitting ridiculously in the drowning dinghy. bri handed her camera to amylynne and she started to snap pictures while i made sure my camera and phone were ok.
miraculously, nothing was harmed. i was wet and had to wash my clothes when we got back to bri's, my purse still hadn't dried out by monday morning (!) and clover was all wet and pathetic looking and shaking because she was either cold or scared or both.
it was a bit scary, but in the end, truly ridiculous and hysterical.
we went straight home to bri's apartment where we showered and dried off. we went out to lunch and i started to feel normal again, finally. after lunch we vegged for a few hours while we waited for bri's sister suzette and her boyfriend to show up. they go to uvm and were moving in sunday, staying the night at bri's on saturday night.
later we went to the state fair, where we ate friend dough, saw some baby chicks, checked out vermont's largest pumpkin and smallest potato, and drank beers with amylynne. we were going to go out after that, but kind of just crashed instead.
the next day it was rainy, so it was a very lazy day. bri and i went to brunch at a cute brewery, then watched some movies and napped on the couch with clover. we helped susu move some stuff in, checked out her apartment, and had some ben and jerry's (an absolute must when visiting vermont). right before going to the airport, we all (bri, susu, her bf, and her roommate and me) all had a yummy sushi dinner.
then i went to the airport for the harrowing experience written about below...
all in all, an amazing, relaxing, fun weekend. i'll add pictures soon and you'll be able to feel like you're there with me.
