the job hunt continues

so, now that i'm back on the hunt for a job, and feeling a little more up to the task, i've just applied to a flurry of jobs. unfortunately, they were all assistant positions. although i know i'm super qualified for these jobs, i really would like to go to the next level and *not* be an assistant any more. i guess what i'm hoping is that these assistant positions will have more editorial responsibility and eventually lead to bigger things editorially at these companies and publications. but, for all my bitching, i'm actually a pretty well paid assistant. would i take a pay cut to be an assistant somewhere else? not sure. it would have to be the right oppurtunity. which, as we have already learned, is not laptop mag.

i met with my buddy in hr, the hr assistant actually (so she can commiserate with my situation) yesterday. she was actually pretty encouraging, although she didn't really have much advice i hadn't already heard. i wanted her opinion about whether or not it was worth it to send my resume and stuff to hr departments. her advice: with big companies, resumes in hr get lost. i should use my connections *within* the magazines editorial staffs to spread the word that i'm looking for a position.

time to get out the old business card file. i hate begging people for help, especially when i was just begging them 18 months ago, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get ahead in the world. if my bosses won't give me any connections they have themselves, i'll have to work it on my own. fabulous.
